Position Overview

We are seeking for a z/Series Mainframe DB2 Specialist to join our Central Systems Management Division, within our Group IT.

By joining this role, you’ll be part of the z/Series Mainframe DBA team and you will be responsible for managing the database infrastructure that supports the Bank's operations. This position requires a professional with substantial experience and expertise in handling complex and sensitive database systems.

 

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Install, configure, and upgrade IBM DB2 database systems on the zOS platform to meet the Bank's requirements.
  • Proactively monitor and manage DB2 database performance, capacity, and health to ensure optimal functionality and availability.
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks through SQL query optimization, database configuration tuning, and the effective use of performance monitoring tools.
  • Design, implement, and regularly test robust backup, recovery, and disaster recovery plans to safeguard the bank's critical data and ensure business continuity.
  • Collaborate effectively with application development teams to provide expert database support for new and existing banking applications, ensuring seamless integration and optimal performance.
  • Participate actively in internal and external audits and compliance checks related to database security and operational procedures, providing necessary information and demonstrating adherence to requirements.

 

You will be a great candidate if you have:

  • 5+ years hands-on experience as a DB2 for zOS Database Administrator in a complex IT environment, preferably within the banking or financial services industry.
  • Extensive knowledge of IBM DB2 for zOS architecture, internals, and components.
  • Proficient skills in the use of a wide range of DB2 utilities for database maintenance, backup, recovery, and performance management.
  • Exceptional SQL skills, including the ability to write complex and efficient queries and perform advanced SQL performance tuning.
  • Strong experience with DB2 performance monitoring and tuning tools such as IBM OMEGAMON, BMC Mainview, or Broadcom/CA tools.
  • Comprehensive understanding of DB2 security features and proven ability to implement and manage them effectively.
  • Significant experience in designing, implementing, and testing backup and recovery strategies for IBM DB2 for zOS in a high-availability environment.
  • Solid working knowledge of the zOS operating system, including commands, utilities, system parameters and subsystems such as DFSMS, CICS and MQ.
  • Practical experience with JCL (Job Control Language) for managing batch processing and automating database tasks.
  • Familiarity with TSO/ISPF for interacting with the mainframe environment.
  • Candidates should possess a Bachelor's degree, preferably with postgraduate qualifications, in Computer Science or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Relevant IBM DB2 certifications.
  • Fluency in English and Greek languages.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills for efficient issue resolution
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, collaborative spirit, agility, and can-do attitude.
